The 9th annual Sense-ation! Gala was a sensational success! Together, we raised more than $1.3 million for research and patient care at Mass. Eye and Ear.
It was an incredible evening of inspiration and entertainment. Guests were thrilled to welcome back Gala Founding Honorary Chair Joey McIntyre (of New Kids on the Block) and family as well as master auctioneer, Billy Costa (Co-Host of KISS 108’s Matty in the Morning and NESN’s Dining Playbook).
“Ballroom with a Twist,” featuring Anna Trebunskaya and Tony Dovolani and other cast members from ABC’s Dancing with the Stars (also some from American Idol and So You Think You Can Dance), brought guests to their feet as the evening’s entertainment.
This brought on a special moment: Mass. Eye and Ear patient Wayne Vinson and his wife, Cynthia, joined these professional dancers on stage as part of their performance. Six years ago, Wayne was badly burned by a chemical accident, where he sustained third-degree burns to over 70% of his body – including his eyes. He slowly recovered, and — a few years later — Wayne received life-changing treatment at Mass. Eye and Ear that brought his sight back. During the time when he was completely blind, Wayne and Cynthia took up ballroom dancing. They have competed in 12 ballroom dancing competitions, 3 of which while he was completely blind.
Wayne and Cynthia’s moment on stage with Ballroom with a Twist was very special, as were the many other moments in which patients bravely shared their stories.
