Mass Eye and Ear and Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), members of Mass General Brigham, have been recognized by U.S. News & World Report in the 2023-2024 “Best Hospitals” rankings with the #4 ranking for ophthalmology (eye care) and #7 ranking in otolaryngology (ear, nose and throat care).

In 2009, Mass Eye and Ear and MGH announced that Mass Eye and Ear physicians would lead and staff the Departments of Ophthalmology and Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery at MGH, which is why both hospitals are named in the ranking.

The Mass Eye and Ear/MGH Department of Ophthalmology earned the #4 national ranking for 2023-2024. This ranking is based entirely on a reputational survey of board-certified ophthalmologists around the country. Realizing the need for more objective and transparent reporting in the field, the Department has published a Quality and Outcomes Report since 2010.

The Mass Eye and Ear/MGH Department of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery earned the #7 ranking for U.S. programs for 2023-2024. The otolaryngology ranking is based on scoring criteria including quality of care, patient safety and national reputation as surveyed by board-certified otolaryngologists.

“We take great pride at Mass Eye and Ear for continued recognition as a top hospital in the nation for for eye and ENT specialty care,” said CarolAnn Williams, president of Mass Eye and Ear. “Our staff, including our doctors, nurses, technicians, and employees who work in facilities, environmental services and administrative roles, are incredibly passionate about the experience we offer our patients who comes to us from New England and around the country and world. It is our patients who truly motivate the Mass Eye and Ear community to continuously seek ways to improve patient outcomes and research and develop new treatments and cures that could change their lives.”

Mass General Brigham is honored to have five hospitals nationally recognized in U.S. News & World Report “Best Hospitals.”

Massachusetts General Hospital and Brigham and Women’s Hospital once again earned spots on the Honor Roll among the top hospitals in the country. Brigham and Women’s Hospital is ranked #1 in the nation for obstetrics and gynecology.

Three Mass General Brigham specialty hospitals – McLean Hospital, Spaulding Rehabilitation and Mass Eye and Ear – were recognized for national excellence. McLean Hospital was ranked #1 in the nation in psychiatry. Spaulding Rehabilitation is #2 in the nation for rehabilitation, and Mass Eye and Ear is ranked #4 for ophthalmology and #7 for otolaryngology (ear, nose, throat).

Earlier this year, Mass General Brigham launched For Every Patient, a systemwide unified quality strategy that seeks to achieve the best possible outcomes for every patient. For Every Patient is a multi-year, evidence-based, data driven effort that will provide high-quality care that is effective, safe, personalized, and rooted in equity at every touchpoint, for every patient.
