Newton, Mass. -- Samir M. Bhatt, M.D., has joined Mass. Eye and Ear’s Newton-Wellesley location as Medical Director of Otolaryngology (ear, nose and throat care). Dr. Bhatt, who trained at Mass. Eye and Ear/Harvard Medical School in the otolaryngology–head and neck surgery residency program, is a board-certified otolaryngologist with more than 20 years of experience. He is currently accepting new pediatric and adult patients with ear, nose and throat conditions.

Originally from the Midwest, Dr. Bhatt moved to the Boston area to attend college at Harvard University, where he graduated magna cum laude and was elected to the Phi Beta Kappa honor society. He then pursued his medical degree at Yale University School of Medicine, where he graduated with honors and was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society. His residency training at Mass. Eye and Ear/Harvard Medical School included rotations through Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and Boston Children’s Hospital.
Dr. Bhatt then joined the full-time staff of Mass. Eye and Ear, where he practiced and taught both general ENT and otology (ear disorders). In addition to his clinical practice, he researched the relationship between hearing loss and meningitis. He has held the appointment of Instructor of Otolaryngology, Part-Time, at Harvard Medical School since 1991.
Dr. Bhatt has been an invited speaker at regional and national meetings, and he has published numerous peer-reviewed articles in the field. He also founded an ENT clinic in Chitrakoot, India, which has provided care to the rural poor for more than 10 years.
Dr. Bhatt’s clinical interests include the full spectrum of general ENT conditions, including management of ear disease (hearing loss, cholesteatoma and surgery of the ear), nasal and sinus disease (including sinus surgery to prevent sinus infections and treat nasal polyps) and pediatric ear, nose and throat conditions, including ear and throat infections and tube and tonsil procedures.
He was named a "Best Doctor" in otolaryngology in 2009, 2010 and 2011 by Best Doctors in America. He was also recognized by Castle Connolly in its "Top Doctors" list in 2013, 2014 and 2015.
Dr. Bhatt lives with his wife, Amita Bhatt, M.D., a pediatric ophthalmologist at Newton-Wellesley Eye Associates. They are long time residents of Wellesley, Mass., where they have raised two sons.
