Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary Welcomes Dr. Roger K. Russell as Vice Chairman of Anesthesiology

Boston – (Feb. 15, 2011) – Anesthesiologist Roger K. Russell, M.D., a resident of Newton, Mass., has joined the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary as Vice Chairman of Anesthesiology. In this role, Dr. Russell will be responsible for the day-to-day activities of the Anesthesia Department. His duties will include overseeing the scheduling of staff and educational activities of the department, maintaining quality and safety standards for clinical care, and daily dynamic scheduling of the operating room cases.

Dr. Russell comes to Mass. Eye and Ear from Brigham and Women’s Hospital, where he was recognized as one of the outstanding clinicians and teachers in the Anesthesia Department. Among his leadership roles were serving as Assistant Clinical Director of the main operating room and as Director of Medical Student Education for the Anesthesiology Department. His teaching responsibilities included serving as faculty for the Massachusetts General Hospital mock oral exercises for Harvard-affiliated anesthesiology residents preparing to take the oral board examination.

After receiving a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Wesleyan University and a medical degree from the University of Connecticut, Dr. Russell completed a residency in anesthesia and a clinical fellowship in cardiac anesthesia at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. Dr. Russell is a 2010 graduate of the Brigham Leadership Program and a 2008 graduate of Harvard Medical School’s Rabkin Fellowship in Medical Education.
