About Me
Dr. Agarwala is an Anesthesiologist and Chief Medical Officer at Massachusetts Eye and Ear, and Assistant Professor of Anaesthesia at Harvard Medical School. As CMO, he leads the hospital's Medical Staff Office, the Department of Quality, Safety and Value, and leads Patient Experience efforts. He provides OR anesthesia.
Prior to joining Mass Eye and Ear, Dr. Agarwala was Associate Director of Quality and Safety and Division Chief for General Surgery Anesthesia at the Department of Anesthesia, Critical Care and Pain Medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital, where he oversaw departmental quality improvement initiatives, internal and external quality reporting measures, and development and design of new metrics and measurement tools. He has led numerous QI projects, including improving perioperative handoffs, pre- and post-anesthesia evaluation, and clinician response to Operating Room crises, and his research efforts have focused on improving perioperative quality and safety.
Dr. Agarwala leads the Anesthesia Quality Collaborative for Partners Healthcare, and co-leads the Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) Collaborative. He serves on multiple national committees, including the American Society of Anesthesiologists Quality Management and Departmental Administration and Patient Safety and Education Committees, and has published and presented at regional and national conferences on the topics of quality measurement, quality improvement, emergency manuals, handoffs, and enhanced recovery.
