Dr. Butler is a member of the Uveitis Service. He specializes in systemic inflammatory diseases that affect the eyes, as well as infectious causes of uveitis. He has particular expertise in treating inflammatory macular edema with systemic therapies when local corticosteroids are either ineffective or not recommended.

During his residency training, Dr. Butler received a Sanford D. Hecht Research Award from the New England Ophthalmological Society. He was subsequently selected to serve as Chief Resident.

Systemic inflammatory diseases with ophthalmic manifestations, infectious uveitis, uveitic masquerade syndromes, treatment of inflammatory macular edema with systemic interferon-alpha

Research Interests

Long-term outcomes and complications of uveitic diseases, infectious causes of uveitis, steroid-refractory inflammatory macular edema, corticosteroid-induced systemic complications amongst uveitis patients
