
About Me
Dr. Zar is a member of the Optometry and Contact Lens Service at Mass Eye and Ear, Lexington. She provides routine eye care and has extensive knowledge of contact lens fitting methods and management for a variety of needs, including keratoconus, post-corneal transplant, and other irregular corneal conditions. As part of a multidisciplinary case management team, Dr. Zar enjoys the challenges that come with treating patients with irregular corneas, especially as they relate to vision rehabilitation.
Dr. Zar is a graduate of the Rand Afrikaans University in Johannesburg, South Africa where she received her Bachelor's degree in Optometry with honors in Low Vision and Ocular Pathology and earned a certificate of advanced study in ocular disease and pharmacology. After graduating, she worked for several years as a licensed optometrist, with a focus on contact lens fittings. In 2000, Dr. Zar relocated to the United States and obtained her optometric doctorate at the New England College of Optometry. During this time, she received clinical training at the Veterans Administration Boston Healthcare System and other community health centers.
She was the recipient of the 2004 New England College of Optometry Scholastic Achievement Award in the Advanced Standing International Program, awarded for academic excellence and the highest GPA in her graduating class.
Clinical Interests
Refraction, contact lenses, keratoconus, post-op management for anterior segment procedures, and participating in clinical studies.
