The Joseph B. Nadol, Jr., MD, Otolaryngology Surgical Training Laboratory is a state-of-the-art facility offering advanced instruction capabilities for a variety of subspecialties of otolaryngology. A cornerstone of surgical training for residents and fellows, as well as experienced surgeons preparing for complex cases, this laboratory has significantly enhanced training opportunities for the otolaryngology community.

It is the ideal setting for case-based teaching, brainstorming, feedback and observation. It also helps reinforce core competencies in medical knowledge and surgical technique. 

The laboratory is equipped to instruct courses in skull base surgery, general otolaryngology, head and neck surgery, laser surgery, otology and neurotology, facial plastic and reconstructive surgery, sinus surgery, laryngology and pediatric otolaryngology. It is also available for use by other surgical specialties.

Host an Event

This facility allows for hands-on surgical skills training using anatomic, cadaveric specimens. Thirteen specially designed stations (one proctor station and 12 individual stations) are equipped with:

  • Video monitoring
  • Surgical microscopes
  • Surgical drills
  • Suction, water, and ventilation
  • Zeiss microscopes
  • Head holders
  • Karl Storz audio-visual capabilities
  • Medtronic IPC consoles 

The proctor station is connected to each individual workstation with video screens and communication abilities. The laboratory is also carefully furnished with support areas for preparation, storage, decontamination, and clean utility storage.

Additionally, modern audio/visual technology allows for video conferencing from the laboratory, enabling live broadcast to conference rooms within the hospital and to physicians around the globe.

Conferences rooms, specimen procurement, and catering options are also available when reserving the surgical training laboratory.
