Dorgan Earns Norman Knight Nursing Clinical Practice Excellence Award

May 30, 2014

BOSTON (May 30, 2014) – Julie Dorgan, R.N., B.S.N., a Quincy resident and an Inpatient Unit nurse at Massachusetts Eye and Ear, was recently presented with the Norman Knight Nursing Clinical Practice Excellence Award, which was established in 2002 to recognize and honor nurses whose clinical practice demonstrates excellence and a commitment to quality care.

“Beloved by patients, Julie never hesitates to do what it takes to meet their needs,” said Chief Nursing Officer Eileen Lowell, R.N., M.M. “Julie typically explains the tough parts of patients’ treatment, and promises that things will get better. Julie often tells her patients, ‘I know you’re scared, but I’m on this journey with you.’”

The award was presented at Mass. Eye and Ear’s recent Nurses Appreciation Week Dinner, where President and CEO John Fernandez praised the organization’s nurses for their “tremendous courage, professionalism and grace” in the face of many unique challenges last year, including caring for many Boston Marathon bombing victims.

The appreciation and awards dinner was among the highlights of Mass. Eye and Ear’s annual Nurses Appreciation Week, which offers a variety of learning opportunities and recognizes that Mass. Eye and Ear’s nurses, like all employees, are an integral part of the hospital’s mission.
