Dr. Mark Bernardo is a full-time optometrist at Mass. Eye and Ear, Longwood. As part of the Optometry and Contact Lens Service, he provides routine eye care as well as contact lens fitting and management, and has experience with the use of A and B-scan ultrasound. He has extensive knowledge of contact lens fitting methods and techniques for a variety of uses and needs including astigmatism, bifocals, post-surgical, post-trauma, corneal disease/ectasia/ irregularities, aphakia, and high refractive error. He has experience working with various lens modalities including soft contact lenses, rigid gas permeables, multifocal design, hybrids, and scleral lenses. He receives referrals from other physicians at Mass. Eye and Ear, whose patients have eye conditions that require specialized fitting for contact lenses or eyeglasses.

Dr. Bernardo received his Doctorate in Optometry from the New England College of Optometry, where he was awarded a 2009 Beider Moral Scholarship, and was inducted into the Beta Sigma Kappa Optometric Honor Society. He then pursued additional training as an optometry resident in the Mass. Eye and Ear Optometric Residency Program.

Dr. Bernardo shares his great fund of knowledge with optometry and ophthalmology residents. In addition to providing formal supervision to residents during clinic, he teaches the basics of refraction to the first year ophthalmology residents in a workshop setting.
