Dr. Richard Watson is a member of the Retina Service at Mass. Eye and Ear and faculty at Harvard Medical School. He is a board certified ophthalmologist and retina specialist.  He specializes in the treatment of age-related macular degeneration, diabetic eye disease, retinal vascular occlusions, retinal detachment, macular hole repair, epiretinal membrane surgery, and other diseases of the retina.

Dr. Watson earned his medical degree from Tulane University in New Orleans, LA, where he also completed his ophthalmology residency. He then pursued a fellowship in vitreoretinal surgery at the West Virginia University Eye Institute, where his surgical numbers were among the highest of all fellows in the country.

Dr. Watson’s patients have expressed their appreciation for his excellent communication, and meticulous attention to their needs. 

Dr. Watson has been involved in numerous clinical trials to find the best treatments for age-related macular degeneration. He has also been involved with research on diabetic retinopathy and vitreomacular traction.

Clinical Interests

Age-related macular degeneration, geographic atrophy, diabetic eye disease including advanced diabetic retinopathy, central retinal vein occlusion, branch retinal vein occlusion, epiretinal membrane (macular pucker), retinal detachment, macular hole, and other diseases of the retina and vitreous.
