ENT Ultrasound
ENT Ultrasound is a procedure that uses high-frequency sound waves to view internal organs and produce images of the human body. During the ultrasound exam, a device called a transducer is used to view the target area and produce pictures for the study. The transducer emits sound and detects the returning echoes when it is placed on or over the body part being studied.
Ultrasound uses no ionizing radiation, making it a safe exam, even for pregnant women and children. An ultrasound guided biopsy is an exam that uses a small needle to obtain tissue samples of the area in question performed with ultrasound guidance.
Information for Patients
At Massachusetts Eye and Ear we perform routine ultrasound exams and ultrasound guided biopsies. During both of these exams most patients experience little to no discomfort.
During our exams we offer soothing music to help patients relax and to help ensure the patient is comfortable.
If you are seeing one of the physicians at Massachusetts Eye and Ear your appointment will be scheduled through the office. Otherwise you can call 617-573-3555 to schedule any of your imaging studies through the Radiology department. Our staff have many years of experience in helping you prepare for your Radiology exam procedure. We will call you prior to your appointment, if we need further information of the imaging study or procedure.
