What to expect on the day of your child's procedure
Check in for your child's procedure on the 10th floor in the Pediatric Unit at Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary. Once checked in, children are asked to change into a gown and await their transfer to the Operating Room (OR).
There is a playroom with many activities available in the Pediatric Unit to entertain your child while they await their procedure. One parent may accompany their child to the holding area as well as into the OR and stay with them until they fall asleep.
When procedures are complete, children are brought into the Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) where the nurses will monitor them until they are fully awake. One of the physicians will then provide a brief summary of what was seen and done during the procedure. When your child is fully awake, they will return to the 10th floor Pediatric Unit until they are ready to be discharged.
