Often patients with nasal obstruction also have separate cosmetic concerns. At Mass. Eye and Ear, these concerns may be addressed during the same surgical setting with functional rhinoplasty, which conveniently limits their recovery, time away from work and time under anesthesia.

Patients at Mass. Eye and Ear have the option of combining cosmetic procedures, which are not covered by insurance, with medically necessary procedures, which are covered. A quote for the cosmetic portion of the procedure will be provided after you meet with your surgeon and the best techniques to achieve you desired goals are determined.

When performing cosmetic rhinoplasty in patients without nasal obstruction, our surgeons engage in careful preoperative planning to maintain nasal airflow to prevent future nasal obstruction. Often we see patients who have had cosmetic rhinoplasty decades ago that have developed nasal obstruction over time. This, too, can be corrected with revision surgery. When selecting a rhinoplasty surgeon, it is vitally important to work with someone skilled in optimizing both the aesthetics and the function of your nose. For all patients considering nasal surgery, it is critical to balance the surgeon’s knowledge of nasal function with your cosmetic goals.
