Perlane
Perlane is an injectable cosmetic dermal filler used for severe wrinkles, facial folds (nasolabial folds), lip augmentation, facial depressions, and facial scarring.
Perlane is made from stabilized hyaluronic acid gel which easily adjusts and molds to the facial contours. The hyaluronic acid augments the body’s natural supply, which becomes depleted with age.
Perlane differs from Restylane and Radiesse in that Perlane is a larger molecule filler. This means that Perlane can easily fill in deep skin wrinkles, scars, and creases better than Restylane.
Initial Visit
During a patient’s complimentary first visit, a full medical history will be taken. Physical examination will focus on age, genetics, skin type and elasticity. It is important to discuss any pre-existing conditions, allergies, medications, and past surgeries.
The Injection
The area injected is usually numbed first either by the application of ice or with a topical anesthetic. Perlane is injected with an ultra-fine needle and most patients experience minimal discomfort. The procedure is fast, minimally painful, and has a short recovery time.
Prior to the Injection
For at least two weeks prior, patients are required to refrain from smoking, alcohol and aspirin products. Smoking interferes with circulation and healing, and products containing aspirin or ibuprofen thin the blood and increase the risk of bleeding and bruising.
After the Injection
Results are evident within a week and should last for about 6 to 8 months. There may be swelling which can last 2 to 3 days that can be alleviated with cold compresses.
Avoid touching the injected area for 6 hours following treatment.
Possible Side Effects
Perlane injections are safe and quick. However, as with all cosmetic procedures there are side effects and risks. The most common side effects include discomfort or pain at the injection site (which usually subsides within 24 to 36 hours), bruising, infection, and scarring.
Perlane quickly restores volume and fullness to the face.
