Emergency ENT (Ear, Nose and Throat) Care 

Mass. Eye and Ear provides the region’s only dedicated ENT emergency services with staff coverage 24 hours a day and 7 days a week.  The department provides care for ENT emergencies on a walk-in basis.

The Emergency ENT department at Mass. Eye and Ear works in collaboration with Massachusetts General Hospital, which is accessible to patients with broader or associated medical issues.

In coordination with other Mass. Eye and Ear departments, the Emergency Department has access to the latest in radiologic imaging and hyperbaric oxygen therapy. Conditions appropriately managed by referral to the Emergency Department include conditions such as:

  •  Epistaxis (nose bleed)
  •  Hearing loss
  •  Injuries to the ears
  •  Injuries to the head and neck area
  •  Foreign bodies in ears, nose or throat
  •  Facial fractures
  •  Burns involving the nose ears and mouth
  •  Paralysis of the face
  •  Sinus disorders
  •  Dizziness
  •  Compromised upper airway
  •  Difficulty swallowing
  •  Lumps in the neck, throat

Medical Staff
The ENT Emergency medical staff consists of attending physicians, ENT residents, nursing staff and ancillary personnel. All ENT Emergency physicians are board certified or board eligible by the American Board of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery.
