Clinical Trials relating to Age-Related Macular Degeneration
Actively recruiting participants
Comparison of AMD Treatments Trials (CATT)
This multi-center randomized clinical trial is designed to investigate the efficacy of ranibizumab (Lucentis™) vs. bevacizumab (Avastin™) for wet age-related macular degeneration. This study will also compare monthly vs. “as-needed” treatment regimens. Patients with newly diagnosed, untreated wet AMD are eligible for enrollment.
Ongoing, recruitment closed
Age-Related Eye Disease Study 2 (AREDS2)
The AREDS 2 study is examining the effect of oral supplementation of lutein/xeathanthin and/or long chain omega-3 fatty acids on progression to advanced age-related macular degeneration. An additional goal of the study is to assess whether forms of the AREDS nutritional supplement with reduced zinc and/or no beta-carotene are as effective as the original formula in reducing the risk of progression to advanced AMD.
