Research and Teaching
The Department of Eye Pathology collaborates with other ophthalmology services to perform multidisciplinary research. Slides and tissue may be obtained for research after Mass. Eye and Ear Internal Review Board approval.
Slide read-out with an attending pathologist occurs Monday through Friday at 2:00pm at the David G. Cogan Laboratory of Ophthalmic Pathology in suite 321 at Massachusetts Eye and Ear, Boston campus.
Pathology Rounds occur on the third Tuesday of every month from 6:00 to 7:30pm in the Sloane Teaching Room on the third floor of the hospital. Cases are presented by fellows and residents from Mass. Eye and Ear and attended by residents from Harvard Medical School/Mass. Eye and Ear, Boston University and Children’s Hospital, Boston. Cases serve as a platform for further in-depth teaching in pathology. A selection of teaching slides is available.
Guest speakers from around the nation are invited four times a year from 6:00 to 8:00pm in the Meltzer Auditorium on the third floor of hospital to speak on comprehensive topics in ophthalmic pathology as part of the Boston Ophthalmic Pathology Lecture Series, sponsored by the Harvard Medical School and Boston University Departments of Ophthalmology.
