Ophthalmic Diagnostic Services
The Ophthalmology Department at Mass. Eye and Ear provides comprehensive testing and diagnostic services for our patients and upon referral from ophthalmologists practicing in other locations. Among the major diagnostic services that are provided at the request of physicians based in other community or academic practices are the following:
- Corneal imaging: topography (Pentacam), specular microscopy, slit-lamp photography, confocal microscopy.
- Corneal analysis for infectious keratitis
- Fluorescein imaging
- Ocular infection diagnosis
- Ocular pathology
- Ultrasound of the eye
Results of diagnostic services are reported to referring or ordering physicians.
In all cases, the patient will need to register as a patient of Mass. Eye and Ear and provide payment information. Health insurance companies may require that referring physicians or patients obtain their advance authorization in order to provide coverage for diagnostic services under the patient's contract.
