A one or two year fellowship in ophthalmic pathology is available. The experience consists of grossing and orienting tissues for processing, participation in daily sign-out sessions for microscopic diagnosis, obtaining and interpretation of special stains such as immunoperoxidase reactions for securing diagnostic accuracy, communication with clinicians for additional radiologic, ultrasound, and OCT test results, and preparation of written reports. Aiding in the organizing of conferences and assisting presenters who require histopathologic illustrative materials are integral to the training program. The fellow is expected to conduct clinico-pathologic research projects culminating in three to five publications by the completion of the training program. Funds are available for presentations at scientific meetings when the fellow is the first author of a paper or a poster. A stipend with standard benefits including health insurance is included in the fellowship offer.
