Glaucoma Genetics Research
Family history is a major risk factor for glaucoma and current investigations are designed to identify genes that predispose individuals to this blinding disease. Specific projects include research programs to identify genes for early-onset glaucoma as well as the common late-onset forms of the disease. Research efforts are also underway to identify environmental factors that contribute to the disease and investigations into gene-gene and gene-environment interactions.
