Qin Liu, M.D., Ph.D.,
Research Associate
Dr. Qin Liu received her M.D from Xuzhou Medical College in Jiangsu, China. She did her residency in the Department of Ophthalmology at Xuzhou Medical College Hospital. She then obtained her Ph.D. in Molecular Ophthalmology from Peking Union Medical College in Beijing, China.
She went on to do her postdoctoral studies at Texas A&M University and the Scheie Eye Institute at the University of Pennsylvania. In 2006, Qin was appointed Research Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Pennsylvania.
In 2011, she joined the Ocular Genomics Institute as a Research Associate. Dr. Liu's research focuses on identifying the cell biology of photoreceptor cells and the molecular bases of inherited retinal degenerations (IRD). She is currently investigating several disease genes from various forms of IRD's and related ciliopathy disorders using a combination of genetically modified animal models and molecular biologic approaches. In addition to her research, Qin also also instructs students, postdoctoral trainees and research fellows on molecular biologic and genetic concepts and techniques.
