Dr. Lashkari studies the pathophysiology of AMD, concentrating on identifying biomarkers in the blood of patients with AMD. To date, he has identified several factors that may be associated with patients with AMD and is re-examining the blood of advanced dry AMD and wet AMD groups to determine whether these factors change in profile if the disease course changes, or if the patients with wet AMD have a positive response to anti-VEGF therapy. Dr. Lashkari also investigates the application of retinal progenitor cells inclinical glaucoma and retinal/macular degeneration as well as for local delivery of neurotrophic factors. Additionally, he studies the role of hepatocyte growth factor in RPE cell biology in response to wound healing and laser injury.
