Research Summary

Dr. Comander is the recipient of a K12 award to conduct research and treat patients under the mentorship of Drs. Eliot Berson and Eric Pierce. His research interests include understanding the molecular basisof retinal degenerations, such as retinitis pigmentosa, and pursuing therapies for these disorders. Currently, he is pursuing a gene discovery effort for pericentral retinitis pigmentosa using next generation sequencing. He is also developing new techniques to speed such characterization in the mammalian retina and is testing gene therapy techniques in primates.
