Research Summary

Dr. Saint-Geniez's research program focuses on the development of new translational technologies for the characterization and treatment of retinal diseases such as age-related macular degeneration. By combining biomaterial engineering and stem cell technology, she is designing new methods for the effective transplantation of retinal pigment epithelium. She also is characterizing the role of cellular metabolismIn the homeostasis and pathology of the retina. Past research has focused on the role of VEGF In ocular development and retinal function: she showed that endogenous VEGF is required for the maintenance of the visual function.
