Research Area Affiliations
Dr. Deschler’s research efforts represent the breadth of his clinical practice and interests. For nearly two decades, his interest in voice restoration following laryngeal cancer surgery has led to numerous publications defining voice quality and function after extensive laryngeal cancer resection and reconstructive efforts. In recent years, these research efforts have focused on simplifying proven methods of voice restoration and limiting complications.
In the arena of head and neck reconstruction, Dr. Deschler has been actively introducing, expanding and evaluating a variety of innovative interventions to improve the success and expanse of state-of-the-art head and neck reconstruction. This has included numerous innovations in flap reconstruction, as well as defining systematic approaches to increase both the efficacy and efficiency of complex reconstructive efforts. Similarly, his recent research efforts have focused on the limitation of infectious complications associated with complex reconstructive efforts.
Dr. Deschler’s oncologic research demonstrates his numerous collaborative relationships with head and neck surgeons, radiation oncologists, radiologists, and pathologists. An area of specific interest has been the management of diverse and aggressive salivary gland malignancies.
The central theme of all of his research efforts is the establishment of improved and effective cancer care and reconstruction.
