1- Postdoctoral Fellow
Applications from scientists with a PhD in neuroscience or a related field are sought to lead studies on in vivo thalamocortical plasticity following reversible hearing loss. Individuals with a background in sensory neuroscience or molecular physiology techniques (e.g. in vivo two-photon Ca2+ imaging, whole cell recording, local iontophoresis or optogenetics) are especially encouraged to apply.
2- Research Technologist
Research Lab Technologist to participate in neurophysiological and behavioral studies of the central auditory system. Looking for a long-term lab member to play a central role in the day-to-day operations of the lab including rodent surgery, in vivo neurophysiology, automated rodent behavioral testing, data analysis, manuscript/poster preparation, and maintenance of an organized and well-supplied laboratory.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Will participate at all levels in ongoing studies, from design, implementation, and troubleshooting of experimental methods, to interpretation of results in consultation with Principle Investigator, to co-authoring the resulting presentations/publications.
2. Will bear primary responsibility for carrying out portions of the actual research, including modifying procedures as necessary to improve effectiveness.
3. Will allocate two days per month (on average) to organizing and equipping the laboratory. This will include updating records/protocols/planning calendar for animal use, calibrating equipment, corresponding with collaborators, reordering necessary supplies and backing up data files.
4. Organizes and participates in regular lab meetings.
5. Will instruct and supervise new lab members in any of these areas.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Au.D. or B.A./B.S./M.S. in Biology, Neuroscience, or Engineering. Several years of post-baccalaureate research experience in Neuroscience, audiology or biomedical engineering, preferably using electrophysiological techniques in animal models. Must be good with computers. A background or interest in computer programming is a plus. Experience with molecular biology is not relevant for this position.
3- Research Technician
Research Lab Technician to participate in neurophysiological and behavioral studies of the central auditory system. Works semi-independently, under supervision of the Principal Investigator or other senior lab members. Performs rodent surgery, carries out in vivo neurophysiological recordings, runs automated rodent behavioral assays, performs data analysis using several software packages, and helps to maintain a well-supplied laboratory.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Will bear primary responsibility for carrying out neurophysiology and behavior experiments, including streamlining procedures as necessary.
2. Will be responsible for quality control of his/her experiments, requiring detailed data analysis.
3. Will allocate one day per week (on average) to organizing and equipping the laboratory. This will include performing an inventory of lab supplies and reordering items, as necessary.
4. Will participate in regular lab meetings.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
B.A./B.S. in Biology, Neuroscience, Psychology or Engineering. Some amount of prior laboratory research experience is preferred.
