Study Design

This research study is non-invasive.  All subjects will participate in a screening session. Subjects who pass the screening will participate in the following three test sessions:  (1) a series of hearing tests at the Mass. Eye & Ear Infirmary; (2,3) MRI testing at the Mass. General Hospital’s Imaging Center in Charlestown.

Study Objective

Investigation of how the brains work in people with tinnitus. 

Who is Eligible

Men with or without tinnitus, ages 35-55 who have normal hearing or high-frequency hearing loss in both ears, Participants must have no metal in or on their bodies that would preclude an MRI.

Subject Enrollment

We are currently enrolling people who meet the eligibility requirements.

Study Procedures

Volunteers will be screened and, if eligible, participate in sessions (1), (2), and (3).  Each session will last between 2 and 3 hours.  Participants will be compensated for their time; the amount of compensation for each test will be known in advance.
