Posterior blepharitis is a condition that affects the inner eyelid (the moist part that makes contact with the eye) and is caused by problems with the oil (meibomian) glands in this part of the eyelid. It is more commonly known as Meibomitis or Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MGD). People with MGD often experience burning, irritation, blurred vision and gradual contact lens intolerance. Their daily activities such as reading, driving and working may be negatively impacted.

There is currently no consistently effective treatment for this condition.

The purpose of this study is to determine whether a topical anti-inflammatory medication is safe and effective for the treatment of MGD. This medication is given in an eye drop and is a synthetic form of a protein that naturally occurs in the body.

Weare looking to see if this medicated eye drop is more effective than “placebo” (eye drops with no medication) in the treatment of MGD and associated dry eye syndrome.

This is a 16 week study consisting of 6 office visits.
