Study Design
Study participants will be equally randomized to receive one of three lens care solutions that are commercially available and are commonly given as lens care regimens. All three of the lens care regimens are considered equally likely to provide proper cleansing and storage of your lenses, and no one knows which of the study options may be best. We would like to use the information gathered from this research study to examine if there are any differences at the cellular level between the corneas of patients using these common lens care products, which we cannot observe with routine eye exams.
Study Objective
The purpose of this study is to assess the cellular changes that may occur in the corneas of contact lens wearers. The cornea is the clear part of your eye that is in front of the iris (the colored part of your eye), and is the part of your eye which will come in contact with your lenses. This trial is studying 3 different, commercially available contact lens care solutions to see how each one affects the immune and inflammatory response of the eye to the contact lenses.
Who is Eligible
Only people that have never worn contact lenses before and have normal healthy eyes, except for a refractive error (using glasses), are eligible for this study.
Subject Enrollment
We are currently enrolling individuals who have never worn contact lenses who meet the study eligibility criteria.
Study Procedures
Participation in this study involves 3 visits to our clinic for an eye exam and corneal imaging over a period of 6 weeks, each of which could last up to 90 minutes. The findings will allow us to determine if any changes occur in the cornea with contact lens wear or contact lens solutions. Each participant will be given a supply of contact lenses and lens care fluid at your initial study visit and will be asked to use this to clean and store your contact lenses for the duration of the research study.
