Boston – (Feb.18, 2011) – NIDCD-funded researchers including Director of the Eaton-Peabody Laboratories at Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, Dr. Charles Liberman, and others from Harvard University and Universidade de Sao Paolo, Brazil, set out to find the answer to why pre-term infants are at a higher risk for hearing loss by conducting a postmortem examination of the temporal bones — the part of the skull that houses the inner ear — of 50 infants from the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) of a hospital in San Jose, Costa Rica.
Dr. Liberman will present his research at the Association for Research in Otolayngology’s Midwinter Meeting. The presentation will be on Sunday, Feb. 20, at 1 p.m. in the Grand Ballroom of The Baltimore Marriott Waterfront Hotel, Baltimore, Maryland, USA.
