BOSTON (July 15, 2014) -- Massachusetts Eye and Ear ranks as one of the top hospitals in the nation for both of its specialties in the 2014 U.S. News & World Report magazine’s “Best Hospitals” survey. Mass. Eye and Ear ranked fourth in the nation and first in New England for both Ophthalmology (Eyes) and ENT (Ear, Nose and Throat).

U.S. News & World Report has ranked Mass. Eye and Ear in the top 10 in one or both of its specialties since the magazine began publishing its annual survey of hospitals in 1990. This year more than 5,000 hospitals from around the country were surveyed and scored based on quality measures and reputation.

“Mass. Eye and Ear physicians, nurses, clinicians and staff offer high-quality, compassionate, specialized care to patients every day. In addition, our clinician-scientists and researchers are making tremendous advances toward finding cures,” said John Fernandez, Mass. Eye and Ear President  & CEO.  “These rankings are gratifying because they help spread the word about the quality of care that we provide and the impact our caregivers make on the lives of so many.”

In 2009, Mass. Eye and Ear and Mass General formalized a collaboration in ophthalmology and otolaryngology care, which is why the two hospitals are ranked together.
