Lennon Earns Norman Knight Excellence in Leadership Award

BOSTON (May 30, 2014) – Kathy Lennon, R.N., a resident of Canton and a nurse-manager at Massachusetts Eye and Ear, was recently presented with the Norman Knight Excellence in Leadership Award, which was established in 2002 to recognize the nurse who demonstrates leadership excellence and a commitment to the Department of Nursing.

“Kathy is a natural leader who enjoys an excellent rapport with faculty, clinical fellows, residents, her peers, and our patients,” said Chief Nursing Officer Eileen Lowell, R.N., M.M. “In addition to paying close attention to customer satisfaction results, Kathy brings to the table a good sense of humor, a willingness to help in any situation, and great loyalty to the institution.”

The award was presented at Mass. Eye and Ear’s recent Nurses Appreciation Week Dinner, where President and CEO John Fernandez praised the organization’s nurses for their “tremendous courage, professionalism and grace” in the face of many unique challenges last year, including caring for many Boston Marathon bombing victims.

The appreciation and awards dinner was among the highlights of Mass. Eye and Ear’s annual Nurses Appreciation Week, which offers a variety of learning opportunities and recognizes that Mass. Eye and Ear’s nurses, like all employees, are an integral part of the hospital’s mission.
