Mass. Eye and Ear has once again been ranked as a top hospital in the nation for its areas of expertise by U.S. News & World Report.

Boston, Mass. — Massachusetts Eye and Ear has once again been named the best hospital in the region for otolaryngology (ear, nose and throat care) and ophthalmology (eye care) by U.S. News & World Report in the 2017-18 “Best Hospitals” issue.

On a national level, the Mass. Eye and Ear/Mass General Department of Otolaryngology earned the no. 2 ranking (no. 1 in New England). The otolaryngology ranking is based on many factors, including quality of care, patient safety and national reputation among board-certified otolaryngologists.

The Mass. Eye and Ear/Mass General Department of Ophthalmology is also ranked among the best in the nation, earning the no. 4 national ranking (no. 1 in New England) it has held for the past 28 years. The ophthalmology ranking is based solely on a reputational survey of board-certified ophthalmologists around the country.

“We are honored that U.S. News & World Report has consistently recognized us as the best hospital for our specialties for almost two decades now,” said John Fernandez, President and CEO of Mass. Eye and Ear. “We celebrate this with our exceptional staff, who provide outstanding care to our patients, many of whom travel to Mass. Eye and Ear from around the globe seeking the best care possible for complex conditions.”

In 2009, Mass. Eye and Ear and Mass General announced that Mass. Eye and Ear physicians would lead and staff the Departments of Ophthalmology and Otolaryngology at Mass General, which is why both hospitals are named in the ranking.
