Potential Gift Designations
You may designate your annual gift to support the program of your choosing. Following are some possibilities for your consideration.
We take great pride in attracting the best and brightest residents. Join us in our commitment to provide them with a world-class training experience complete with the finest instruments and educational tools available.
Howe Library of Ophthalmology
The Howe Library of Ophthalmology and its librarians are vital resources to the
department’s medical and scientific staff. It is one of the most complete libraries of
ophthalmology to be found anywhere. Now with on-line journals available, access to
research material is easier than ever before, however the costs have risen accordingly. The Library depends on philanthropic support to provide the high level of service to residents and faculty and to continually grow its collections.
Mariana Mead Lectureship Fund
The Mariana Mead Lectureship Fund was established to commemorate the life and
career of the late Mariana Mead, MD – the first woman to serve as the Chief Resident of
Ophthalmology at Mass. Eye and Ear. We need your help in reaching our goal of $100,000 to complete this endowed lectureship.
Robert Brockhurst Academic Development Award Fund
In honor of the late Robert Brockhurst, MD, renowned clinician, researcher and mentor,
fellow alumni have initiated the Robert Brockhurst Academic Development Award, which will enable fellows to advance their professional development by attending and presenting at national ophthalmology meetings. The goal for this endowed award is $150,000.
Seed Funding for Eye Research
Seed funding for research promotes the kinds of innovative work that leads to breakthroughs and quantum leaps forward in our field. Small amounts of seed funding can fund pilot studies that can be leveraged for large-scale NEI grants. You can support research in any specialty at Mass. Eye and Ear or Schepens Eye Research Institute.
HMS Chairs based at Mass. Eye and Ear
You may designate your gift to support or complete a Harvard professorial Chair, such as those that honor Claes Dohlman, MD, PhD, Evangelos Gragoudas, MD, Ephraim Friedman, MD, or Joan Miller, MD. Chairs are lasting tributes that will support our academic mission in perpetuity. Special thanks to the many alumni who have made generous gifts or pledges.
Chairman of Ophthalmology Discretionary Fund
By designating your gift to this fund, you will help the Department seize new opportunities to invest in its people, research and teaching programs to continually build upon the excellence of the Department.
Unrestricted support of Mass. Eye and Ear is always appreciated and will be allocated to support the most pressing hospital need at the time it is received.
