Procedures:
At Mass Eye and Ear, Stoneham, the following cosmetic and reconstructive facial plastic procedures are offered to patients. Some can be performed in the office-setting.
Rhinoplasty (Nose Reshaping)
There are two basic types of rhinoplasty, open and closed. In an open rhinoplasty, an inconspicuous incision is made in the skin below the tip of the nose that separates the nostrils (columella). A closed rhinoplasty uses an intranasal approach with incision inside the nostrils. If the nasal structure is weak, a small piece of cartilage or bone may be used to build up the structure.
Full and Mini Facelifts
The full facelift can help to redefine the jawline, correcting jowling and neck laxity. This procedure is performed under general anesthesia in the operating room. The mini facelift has an age-diminishing effect, making the patient look younger, rested and more energized. Facial rejuvenation is achieved by repositioning the skin on the lower face to eliminate sagging and droopiness. The mini facelift is safer than a full facelift and does not require general anesthesia (although general anesthesia is available upon request).
Neck Lift
Neck lifts are often done in conjunction with lower face rejuvenation surgery and can help to further define the upper neck and jawline.
Brow (Forehead) Lift
The brow and forehead are often the first facial areas to show signs of aging, showing frown lines, wrinkles across the forehead, deep furrows between the eyes, and a droopiness of the brows and upper lids. Brow lifts, also known as forehead lifts – often combined with upper eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) and/or a mini facelift – can rejuvenate your look.
Chin Implant
Chin surgery can significantly alter a patient’s profile which, in turn, can greatly improve facial symmetry and contour. Most chin surgeries can be performed under local anesthesia; more complicated cases may be performed under general anesthesia in the operating room.
Blepharoplasty (Eyelid Lift)
Eyelid surgery can correct excess skin or fat in the upper and/or lower eyelids and can help restore a healthy and youthful appearance, with a firmer and more attractive eye area.
MOHS/Skin Care Reconstruction
This surgery is designed to fill and camouflage a facial defect after skin cancer removal.
Botox®
Botox® can improve the look of moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows (glabellar lines) and “crow’s feet” at the outside corners of the eyes. It can also create a smoother appearance to the skin surface by preventing muscle contraction.
Filler Injections
Fillers can help to correct deep lines in the face and also to help plump or enhance the lips or areas of volume loss in the face.
Facial Scar Revision
When the skin is in the process of recovering from an injury, whether the result of an accident, surgery, a burn, or acne, scarring will occur whenever multiple layers of the skin have been affected. Once a scar forms, it is permanent but may be made less visible, relocated surgically, or minimized in its prominence.
Facial Fractures/Trauma
There are many causes of facial fractures, which can include motor vehicle accidents, interpersonal trauma, accidents, or work-related or sports-related activities. Patients are often seen in the emergency department for initial evaluation. In the early management period, life-threatening issues are addressed first, and facial fracture repairs are only attempted after a patient is stabilized.
Mole Removal
During the procedure, the area around the mole or skin tag is numbed and depending on the type of mole and its size, the mole is either cut away and the area is stitched together or left open to heal on its own. A raised mole may even be “scraped away” to reduce its appearance.
Earlobe Repair
Your ears are one of the most visible parts of your body and can often require cosmetic repair. Some people simply wish to have old holes closed, which may have been torn or misplaced when piercing while others may want to change the shape of their earlobes.
Otoplasty (Ear Reshaping)
Otoplasty is ear surgery designed to pin back protruding ears, or to reduce the size of large ears so that they are in better proportion to the rest of the face. Otoplasty can also correct ear deformities from misshapen, damaged or missing ear elements.
