Anesthesia Consultation Service
A surgeon may schedule a special pre-admission anesthesia consult for patients with particularly complicated/acute medical problems that may need to be addressed before they can be safely anesthetized.
To schedule an anesthesia consult, surgeons can call the Anesthesia Department at 617-573-3380 and explain the occasion for the consult. After a pre-admission anesthesia consult, additional concerns may be handled over the telephone.
This process avoids delays or cancellation of surgery due to significant unresolved medical problems.
48 Hour Rule
Surgeons are required to have a complete history, physical and appropriate lab work in the chart to Ms. Gail Langone in the pre-admission area at least 48 hours before surgery. Ms. Langone's telephone number is 617-573-3513.
The Department of Anesthesia offers a cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) Basic Life Support certification and recertification education program to all hospital employees. Physician members act as chairmen of the CPR and respiratory care committees, coordinating these activities with in-house and external agencies and departments.
