Click on the left column to read comprehensive information about Fellowships in Ophthalmology at Mass. Eye and Ear.

International medical graduates must be eligible for an H-1B visa and have completed a US or Canadian ophthalmology residency training program.  Eligibility includes passing all 3 steps of the USMLE test and reporting results to MEEI before the Match deadline.  For self-supported fellows (eg the International Oculoplastics Fellow) the H-1B requirement is waived.

Additionally, applicants must be eligible for a full Commonwealth of Massachusetts medical license, the requirements of which can be viewed on the mass.gov website:
http://www.mass.gov/eohhs/provider/licensing/occupational/physicans/licensing/licensing-fees-and-general-information.html

Please note that effective January 1, 2014, in order to be eligible for a full license, international medical graduates must complete three (3) years of postgraduate training in an ACGME accredited or AOA approved or accredited Canadian program.  However, in the case of a subspecialty clinical fellowship program, the Board may accept postgraduate training in a hospital that has an ACGME accredited or AOA approved or accredited Canadian program in the parent specialty.  (This is not yet noted on the mass.gov link above).

All qualifications must be met to be considered for medical staff appointment.  Medical staff approval is contingent upon your satisfactory completion of the hospital credentialing process in accordance with Medical Staff By-Laws.
