Application

The Harvard Otolaryngology Residency Program currently accepts four residents per year.

There are two separate tracks for residency training, differentiated by time allotted for research training.

The Clinical Track consists of one year of general surgery and four years of otolaryngology-head and neck surgery.

The Research Track is a total of seven years training: one year of general surgery, four years in otolaryngology-head and neck surgery and an additional two years devoted entirely to research training. This research block falls between the PGY-2 and PGY-3 years of training and is supported by an NIDCD training grant.

We offer three PGY-1 positions on the clinical track and one PGY-1 position on the research track for each year.

Clinical Track - 3 positions/year

1 year General Surgery
4 years Otolaryngology

Research Track - 1 position/year

1 year General Surgery
4 years Otolaryngology
2 years NIDCD-funded research (Research years occur between PGY 2 & 3)

A resident applicant may be a candidate for one or both tracks. Interviews for both tracks are conducted on the same days.

The Harvard Residency Program participates in the ERAS application and NRMP Match. The clinical and research tracks are identified by two different numbers in the NRMP Program.

The PGY-1 year of general surgical training takes place at one of three institutions: the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, the Brigham and Women's Hospital, or the Massachusetts General Hospital.

Those wishing to submit research papers/reprints in support of their application may do so by identifying the papers "Applicant for Residency" with their full name at the top of the paper and submitting it to ENT Education Office, 243 Charles Street, Boston, MA 02114.

Residency interviews for the Program will be held at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary. The interview format includes six interviews for each applicant, lunch with the faculty and residents, tours of the facilities at both the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary and the Longwood campus, and ample opportunity for questions. In addition, there is an opportunity to meet with the residents at a dinner the evening before the interview day.
