Your Child’s Care After Surgery

After the surgery is complete, your child will be transported to the PACU/Recovery Room for postoperative care. You will be notified by the staff when you are able to see your child in the PACU/Recovery Room. To protect patient privacy and confidentiality, only one parent will be allowed in the PACU/Recovery Room. Please feel free to bring your child’s blanket, stuffed animal, or pacifier with you.

If your child requires an overnight stay, one parent will be able to sleep by his/her side on a pullout bed.

Your doctor and nurse will work with you to decide the appropriate time for your child to be sent home. Before your child is sent home, a member of the Pediatric Nursing staff will talk to you about how to care for your child at home. This is the time to ask any questions about the care.
