Hope for Hayley
Hayley Benson is a survivor. At 15 months of age, she had already undergone more medical procedures than most people ever experience.
Hayley was diagnosed with hereditary retinoblastoma, the most common form of eye cancer in children, when she was just 6 days old.
Thanks to the expertise of Dr. Shizuo Mukai the medical team at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, and the proton beam, this little girl has a positive future that includes the gift of sight. Hayley’s parents were thrilled to have Dr. Mukai treating their daughter and to have the Mass. Eye and Ear’s world-class medical resources so readily available. “We had the utmost faith in Dr. Mukai. He’s the best in the country,” says Rob Benson, Hayley’s father.
