Biographical Profile:
Dr. Stankovic is a board-certified ear and skull base surgeon and a PhD-trained auditory neuroscientist. Her medical education includes a medical degree from Harvard (Magna Cum Laude), Internship in General Surgery at the Massachusetts General Hospital, Residency in Otolaryngology - Head and Neck surgery at Harvard and Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary (MEEI), and Fellowship in Neurotology - Skull Base Surgery at Harvard and MEEI. Her scientific training includes BS degrees in Physics and in Biology from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), PhD degree in Auditory Neuroscience from MIT, and post-doctoral training in Molecular Neuroscience at Harvard Medical School and Children's Hospital, Boston. She has received numerous awards, including the Association of M.I.T. Alumnae (AMITA) annual award given to the outstanding senior woman for the highest degree of academic excellence and professional promise, the Henry Asbury Christian Award for outstanding performance in research and scholarly activities, Harvard Medical School, and the Howard Hughes Medical Institute postdoctoral research fellowship for physicians and young investigator award from the National Organization for Hearing Research. She presently serves on the Executive Board of the American Auditory Society, and on the Long Range Planning Committee of the Association for Research in Otolaryngology. Concurrent with her clinical activities, she directs a basic science laboratory that focuses on hearing and hearing restoration. The approach is interdisciplinary, combining tools of systems neuroscience with molecular, genetic and genomic studies to arrive at novel diagnostic and prognostic tools, and therapies for deafness. Her clinical and research work drives and reinforces one another. Her involvement in cutting-edge research gives her patients the opportunity to participate in clinical trials that could lead to breakthroughs in addressing the problems of participating patients, while advancing the knowledge frontier of the auditory field. Clinical InterestsOtology/Neurotology, including hearing loss in adults and children, cochlear implants and other implantable hearing devices, acoustic neuromas (vestibular schwannomas), otosclerosis, and cholesteatoma.
