Biographical Profile:


As a member of both the Cornea and Refractive Surgery Service and the Comprehensive Ophthalmology and Caratarct Consultation Service, Dr. Katie Luo expertly manages a variety of common eye problems, such as cataracts and glaucoma, as well as all cornea-related diseases, including keratoconus, Fuchs dystrophy, and pterygium. She also conducts routine annual eye and vision exams.

Dr. Luo graduated from Nanjing University in China with a bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry and a master’s degree in Molecular Biology. She later attended Albert Einstein College of Medicine, where she earned a master’s degree in Pathology, a PhD in Cell Biology, and her medical degree. She completed her Ophthalmology residency at Harvard Medical School (HMS) and then continued her subspecialty training in Cornea Disease, External Disease, and Refractive Surgery at Mass. Eye and Ear.

As a clinician scientist, Dr. Luo is broadly interested in research regarding a variety of clinical practices and resident education. She is particularly interested in optical coherence tomography (OCT), a non-invasive medical imaging technique, to improve scleral contact lens fitting.

In addition to her clinical and research responsibilities, Dr. Luo also teaches and mentors medical students, resident, and fellows at HMS. 

Throughout her career, Dr. Luo has been honored with numerous awards and scholarships. In particular, she was presented with the first place Sanford D. Hecht Award for Resident and Fellow Posters.
