Biographical Profile:

Joseph B. Ciolino is a physician-scientist in our K12 grant program, with office sessions for patient care at our Charles Street location. After obtaining his medical degree at Georgetown University School of Medicine, and completing an Internal Medicine internship at Brown University, Dr. Ciolino worked as a research fellow in Comprehensive Ophthalmology at Mass Eye and Ear, examining cataract surgery outcomes. Subsequently, he completed his Ophthalmology residency at Albany Medical College, where he was Chief Resident in his final year, and returned to us for his fellowship in the Cornea, Refractive Surgery and External Disease Service.

Dr. Ciolino’s research interest concerns translational projects such as projects on keratoprosthesis and ocular drug delivery. He has been working with collaborators at Children's Hospital Boston and MIT on developing a drug-eluting contact lens, and will continue this work in the K12 program with the mentorship of Dr. James Chodosh.

Dr. Ciolino will begin scheduling patient care in September 2009.
