HMS Department of Ophthalmology Distinguished Alumni Professional Achievement Award

The Harvard Medical School Department of Ophthalmology is pleased to announce a call for nominations for the 2011 “HMS Department of Ophthalmology Distinguished Alumni Professional Achievement Award.”

The award acknowledges significant contributions to the field of ophthalmology by an alumnus or alumna from the HMS Department of Ophthalmology training programs. Accomplishments may be in clinical care, research, an educational program or an administrative area. Two awards are given each year. The awards will be presented at the Department of Ophthalmology Annual Meeting in June, 2010.  Attendance at the meeting is required to receive the award. Travel and hotel expenses will be provided.

Call for Nominations

Applications are due July 1, 2010 for the 2011 awards. The HMS Department of Ophthalmology Distinguished Alumni Award Committee will review the applications. Please click here for the application and nomination instructions.

An eligible candidate will be a graduate of one of the HMS Department of Ophthalmology training programs in active ophthalmic practice or research who meets one or more of the following criteria:

  • Provides exceptional leadership in patient care, research, teaching or organized ophthalmology
  • Promotes the art and science of ophthalmology through education
  • Is recognized for contributions to the research community
  • Has had early career accomplishments with significant potential for further accomplishments.

To be considered for this award, an application form with an accompanying cover letter describing why the individual is being nominated must be submitted by the nominator. The completed application will include a nominee’s curriculum vitae and bibliography, letters of recommendation, and supporting information. Supporting information may include letters of commendation, awards, journal articles, etc. The nomination letter should include specific examples of how the nominee has distinguished himself/herself in his/her area. The HMS Department of Ophthalmology Distinguished Alumni Award Committee will review the applications and select the recipients, who will be notified by October 1, 2010.
