Department of Radiology Annual Report
Fiscal Year 2010 

 Highlights from this fiscal year include the following:

  Faculty promotions:
• Laura V. Romo, M.D. was promoted to Assistant Clinical Professor of Radiology
at Harvard Medical School.

New Equipment and Technology:
A one-year trial was extended at no cost for a 3D Accuitomo CT System for further clinical evaluation. The equipment is intended to be used for head and neck three dimensional X-ray Computed Tomography applications by exposing limited cone shape beam x-ray to a flat panel detector. Applications include diagnosis for Temporal, Orbita, Maxilla, Mandibula, Cervicales, Cranium and Basicranium area.

New services and renovations: The radiology Department expanded the ENT Ultrasound service hours to a 3rd day to accommodate ordering physician volume. The service is now offered Monday 7:30am-3:30pm, Tuesday 7:30am-5:30pm and Thursday 7:30am-5:30pm.

Educational highlights:

• Hugh D. Curtin, MD and Alfred L. Weber, MD were course directors for the HMS Head and Neck Radiology Post Graduate Course which was held in September 2010. Faculty members from the MEEI Department of Radiology presented lectures at the course which was held in Cambridge, MA.

• Hugh D. Curtin, MD and Mary Beth Cunnane, MD presented multiple lectures at MRI and CT courses that were held within the year.

• Hugh D. Curtin, MD served as Head of the Neuroradiology/Head and Neck Refresher Course at the Radiologic Society of North America annual meeting.

• Hugh D. Curtin, MD, Paul A. Caruso, MD et al published an article entitled ‘A Histological Study of Scala Communis with Radiological Implications’ in Audiol Neurootol 2010;15(6):383-93

• Gul Moonis, MD, Hugh D. Curtin, MD et al published an article entitled ‘A Venous Cause for Facial Canal Enlargement: Multidetector Row CT Findings and Histopathologic Correlation’ in AJNR Am J Neuroradiol 2010.

• Hugh D. Curtin, MD et al published an article entitled ‘Imaging of the mylohyoid muscle: separation of submandibular and sublingual spaces’ in AJR Am J Roentgenol 2010;194(5):W431-8.

• Hugh D. Curtin, MD et al published an article entitled ‘Ocular adnexal lymphoma: diffusion-weighted mr imaging for differential diagnosis and therapeutic monitoring’ in Radiology 2010;256(2):565-74.

• Mary Beth Cunnane, MD et al published an article entitled ‘Radiology quiz case 2. Juvenile nasopharyngeal angiofibroma (JNA), Radkowski grade Ib’that was published in Arch Otolaryngol Head Neck Surg. 2010 Jul;136(7):741-3.
