Meet a Specialist: Alex Grilli, M.D.

Ever since Alex Grilli, M.D. was a child growing up in New York City, he has enjoyed the challenges that come with constant change. So it’s no surprise that the complexities of otolaryngology continue to fascinate him. “Many people think of the head and neck area as a small part of the body, but it’s very complex anatomically and functionally,” he states.

Having joined Mass. Eye and Ear in 2002, and currently as a member of the Mass. Eye and Ear, South team, Dr. Grilli enjoys the variety and challenges that come with diagnosing and treating patients with an assortment of ear, nose and throat issues. Dr. Grilli’s clinical practice is general otolaryngology, and his clinical interests include pediatric ENT, endoscopic sinus surgery and obstructive sleep apnea.

“There’s a lot going on from the neck up, which is why I enjoy what I do. Otolaryngology allows me to see many types of patients—from newborns to those in their 90’s—with many different disease processes,” Dr. Grilli continues. “That’s why it’s important for me to really get to know each patient—no two cases are alike.”

He also understands the importance of easily accessible services to those seeking ENT care, and he’s proud to work together with a team of physicians on the south shore and southeast MA to make the world-renowned Mass. Eye and Ear services available to those in need. “The resources available at Mass. Eye and Ear allow me to create a continuum of care for my patients,” he says. And as he looks to the future, Dr. Grilli looks forward to what he and his colleagues south of Boston can accomplish together. “I want to make sure that we continue to deliver state-of-the-art care to our patients, while also continuing to build upon our reputation of excellence,” he says.

Dr. Grilli received his medical degree from Tufts University. He then trained in general surgery at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center, followed by a four year otolaryngology residency at Tufts-New England Medical Center. He treats patients of all ages and believes that taking time to listen to his patients and helping them understand all of their treatment options are necessary steps towards developing a trusting and effective doctor-patient relationship.

Mass. Eye and Ear, South has six locations south of Boston: Quincy, Weymouth, Milton, Duxbury, East Bridgewater and Braintree. Together, these offices provide a broad range of services and the world-renowned care you’ve come to expect from our world class organization.
